Between July and October, the beaches of Tortuguero become the stage for one of nature's most breathtaking spectacles: the nesting of the green sea turtle. This is a unique opportunity to witness these magnificent creatures returning to their birthplace to lay their eggs.
Having spent years journeying through the vast oceans, green sea turtles are guided by an ancient instinct to return to the very beaches where they were born. Once there, they embark on a remarkable journey, digging a nest in the sand and carefully depositing their eggs. It is a truly awe-inspiring sight to behold.
Each tour lasts approximately 2 hours and departure times vary based on available reservations. Tours typically begin between 8:00 pm and 10:00 pm, or 10:00 pm and midnight, as determined by the National Park.
To ensure the protection of these magnificent creatures and their fragile habitat, we ask that all visitors follow a few simple guidelines. Please wear dark clothing, maintain absolute silence, refrain from smoking, and avoid using any flashlights or cameras. Light can disorient the turtles and disrupt their natural behavior.
